Wikileaks Founder Ends Years Long Legal Battle

Julian Assange Pleads Guilty to Espionage Charge

WikiLeaks Founder Ends Years-Long Legal Battle

Assange to Walk Free After 12 Years in Custody

In a dramatic turn of events, Julian Assange, the founder of the whistleblower website WikiLeaks, has agreed to plead guilty to a single felony count of illegally obtaining classified information. The plea came after years of legal wrangling and a lengthy extradition battle to the United States.

On Wednesday, Assange appeared before a US judge and entered the guilty plea. He admitted to conspiring with former US Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning to obtain and publish classified documents from the US Department of Defense. The documents included diplomatic cables and military intelligence files that exposed alleged war crimes and human rights abuses committed by the US military in Afghanistan and Iraq.
